Lorenzo String Quartet

Lorenzo String Quartet

The Lorenzo String Quartet came together at Manhattan School of Music in September of 2002. Since its founding it has, in a very short period, emerged as one of New York’s up-and-coming chamber music groups.

The LSQ has performed at many functions in and around New York City, including a recent performance of John Corigliano’s String Quartet in the Manhattan School of Music’s Claremont Ensemble series. Upcoming performances include a workshop with the Guarneri String Quartet at Lincoln Center in April. The LSQ was the featured ensemble in the New York segment of the Pedrotti International Competition for Orchestra Conductors.

With cellist David Geber (founding member of American String Quartet) as their coach, the Quartet won the Lillian Fuchs Chamber Music Competition twice. In April 2004, the group had the privilege of performing the C major Quintet by Schubert with Maestro Geber.

Other chamber music studies have included master-classes with Michael Tree and Pinchas Zukerman and coaching with celebrated composer Richard Danielpour.

As individuals, the Lorenzo Quartet’s members, Wu Jie and Robert Uchida violins; Derek Smith, viola and Alon Bisk, cello, have explored a variety of musical forms including solo performances with major orchestras. However, the members of the Lorenzo String Quartet have discovered that the string quartet repertoire is where their passions lie.
